In interior design, it's crucial to strike a balance between crafting spaces that radiate sophistication and elegance and making sure they are practical and tailored to the client's preferences. This journey is filled with both challenges and triumphs, but establishing a strong foundation for your business is essential for future success.

Although I am just starting my journey, I have discovered that the interior design world involves much more than just choosing the right couch or paint colour. Crafting a space that exceeds expectations with boundless creativity is a complex yet beautiful process.
I have chosen to enter the realm of Commercial Interior Design, motivated by the desire to help other businesses thrive through my efforts. My aim is to influence people's daily lives positively, understanding that their preferred coffee shop, restaurant, boutique, gym, or even train station stems from the commitment and creativity my work embodies.
During my journey, I've identified several key elements crucial for building a solid foundation in the field of Interior Design.
Learning Color
Although it may seem straightforward, understanding color is a crucial aspect of Interior Design. Mastering paint and stain colours is vital for not only ensuring they harmonize but also enhancing them in ways that will captivate your potential clients.
I was particularly interested in using paint sample books from hardware stores to explore the vast array of colours available for design projects. Even now, I feel like I've only just begun to explore them! The sheer number of colours can be overwhelming, but once you start to understand the different colours and their variations, you're heading in the right direction!
Learning your Style
For designers, adaptability is crucial. Nonetheless, every designer possesses a distinct style that enables them to excel in their craft. Identifying your style is similar to discovering the brand of clothing that complements your personality and physique. Your style enables you to thrive in your unique excellence. It is also essential to understand other styles since your clients might have preferences that differ from your own. Each designer's style is as unique as a thumbprint; it's vital to identify yours and embrace it with confidence!
Finding Suppliers
Locating suppliers is crucial in your journey. Understanding where to source materials, furniture, contractors, artwork, and more is vital for success as a designer. Having all these resources readily available ensures a smooth and efficient process when designing a client's space. Networking at local events like the Interior Design Show and engaging with interior design groups on platforms such as Facebook enables you to connect with numerous businesses eager to collaborate and increase their visibility, just like you! This approach simplifies the process of finding these businesses compared to searching for them independently.
Making Mood boards
Mood boards are an excellent resource for learning and honing your personal style. They offer a space for unrestricted exploration and creativity. You can cultivate and discover your own style while also refining other design styles at the same time. Apps such as Morpholio offer paint colors, a wide range of furniture, and artwork for a modest annual fee, enabling you to express yourself and start adding your boards to a portfolio, allowing potential clients to understand your identity as a designer.
These initial tips mark the start of a long and beautiful journey. A career in interior design is rewarding and full of potential. By staying true to yourself and embracing your unique offerings, you can go further than you ever imagined. With the right motivation and commitment, there are no limits to how far you can go. See you out there!
